ATLANTIC – Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission tabled a site plan review for a new coffee business in Atlantic, in hopes of getting more information about ways individuals would enter and exit the business. Members were concerned about extra traffic in the area due to the location of the business.
According to city officials, officials with East Atlantic Holdings LLC owns the lot where the Verizon Building is located-at 1508 East Seventh Street-and they have agreed to lease part of their property to Scooter’s Coffee. The business offers coffee, smoothies and breakfast food at a coffeehouse with only drive through access.
Members were worried about more traffic congestion in the area as the business was set to be in front of the Verizon Building and east of Oinkers.
Scooter’s Construction Manager Dan Forslund had one suggestion to the traffic congestion, which would be to make the entry access from Seventh Street, that is currently in front of Verzion and west of McDonalds, an entry and exit point.
“I would like to turn this entry access into a east and west exit,” Forslund said. “I think that would maintain the current traffic, if not improve it.”
Atlantic City Manager John Lund said Forslund would have to contact Iowa DOT officials to see if that was possible. Forslund hoped he could do that, and come back to speak with the commission at the same time next week, so they could review it again. He said the company’s goal was to get the building built for the business this year.
