UNDERWOOD – The City of Underwood announced that Garcia’s Mexican Family Restaurant will be opening Dec. 1 at 118 Third Street. The grand opening will coincide with the Underwood City Christmas Lighting Ceremony. Garcia’s will offer authentic Mexican food with daily food and drink specials. Maria and Santana Garcia, sister and brother, are part of the larger Garcia family that has El Sol Mexican Restaurant in Oakland and Plaza Azteca in Atlantic. Both with great reputations.
Garcia’s will be open seven days a week. Sunday’s hours will be 11a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturdays. The new restaurant will serve all the traditional dishes in seafood, chicken, and steak combinations, and the bar area will stay open as needed beyond 10 p.m. The new establishment will also offer catering and in the spring, a large patio area for outside dining and parties.
When asked about the decision to establish themselves in Underwood, the twosome stated they had been searching for an ideal location for six months when they found this place on the main street in Underwood. Garcia pointed out there were no other Mexican restaurants between Harlan and Council Bluffs near Interstate access. Santana went on to say the friendliness of Underwood gave them a sense of encouragement and he said, “We want our food to speak for itself. We are excited to be here!”
