The Exira-EHK baseball and softball team each earned a Rolling Valley Conference win over Glidden-Ralston on Monday night.

The Spartan softball (5-7) team won a defensive slug fest over the Wildcats (4-8) 3-0 The Spartans scored two runs in the first then scored their last run in the second.

Though that would be it for the scoring, Macy Emgarten continues to be a solid force on the mound as she struck out nine batters and allowed just two hits, and never walked a batter after pitching all seven innings. After a disappointing loss on Saturday, head coach Ashton Koehlmoos was much more pleased with this games effort.

“It comes down to four simple words,” Koehlmoos said. “We came to play. That was a huge, big win for us and right away we started off firing. Macy got some big strikeouts that got the team going and we put some runs on the board, and we just went from there. “

Exira-EHK’s baseball team (3-5) also earned one for the win column as they held off Glidden-Ralston (1-5) 5-2. The Spartans scored the first four runs before the Wildcats scored two to make it interesting in the sixth inning. The Spartans got one back and then used solid fielding to hold off the visiting Wildcats.

“This is a good way to start the week,” Spartan coach Trevor Miller said. “We got a tough week with hosting Woodbine wednesday and then Coon Rapids-Bayard on Friday. So we had to come ready to play and we’ll need to be ready to go with our next two.”

Both Spartan teams will be off on Tuesday before hosting Woodbine on Wednesday. Softball varsity will start at 5 p.m. and baseball varsity is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
