Atlantic Virtual Commencement Ceremony,Cruise Set For Sunday

Atlantic Superintendent Steve Barber shakes the hand of a graduate during last year’s graduation. This year there will be a virtual graduation and a graduation cruise around town.

ATLANTIC – Atlantic School Officials will hold a virtual graduation ceremony as well as Drumline Graduation Cruise this Sunday.

The ceremony will start at 2 p.m., and according to Atlantic High School Principal Heather McKay, those interested in viewing it need to register in advance at the following link:

Then individuals will receive a confirmation email containing containing information about joining the webinar. Viewers need to have Zoom installed on whichever device they are using. It will also be streamed on the AHS Facebook page.

The Drumline Graduation Cruise will be held on Sunday as well, and start at 4 p.m. in the high school parking lot. Graduates are expected to be wearing their caps and gowns, and riding in vehicles during the cruise.

The cruise will start at the high school, and then travel west on 14th Street to Maple Street. Then it will travel north on Maple Street to 10th Street, and then east on 10th Street to Linn Street. Then it will travel to Ed Podolak Drive and then east to Olive Street. Then it will travel north to 10th Street, and on west to Chestnut Street. It will travel north on Chestnut Street, and on Chestnut Street, vehicles will stop at a platform where the graduate and his or her parents will be introduced. Their plans following graduation will also be announced at this time. After that, vehicles will proceed to the Rock Island Depot, and then travel west to conclude the route.
