AUDUBON -- The class 2A Underwood Eagles and Audubon Wheelers met for the second time this season in Western Iowa Conference action.
In baseball, Underwood (11-2) held off the Wheelers (7-8) 6-3. It was the hometown Wheelers who struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second. However, the Eagles had a quick response as they scored two of their own in the third inning. The Eagles would then score two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-2 lead. Audubon got one back in the sixth, but would not inch any closer.
On the softball field, the Eagles (8-4) and improving Wheelers (2-14) slugged it out going back and forth throughout the game, but the Eagles took the win 7-4 after a big seventh inning that brought in four runs. Head into the sixth the Wheelers lead 4-2. However, the Eagles chipped one run away in the sixth to make it 4-3 before rallying in the final inning to rob Audubon it second WIC victory.
The Wheeler teams will be off until Friday where they will host Missouri Valley. Unless announced otherwise, JV is scheduled for 5:30 for baseball and softball with varsity action to immediately follow.
