Former Atlantic High School standout Jake Olsen had a sensational afternoon on the greens Saturday afternoon, firing a 4-under 65 to claim a share of the lead after Day 2 of the Tournament of Champions.
Olsen and co-leader Jared Koch traded the lead several times, with Olsen connecting on four birdies in the final five holes of the front nine to get to 5-under par. Koch was at 6-under after the first nine, on the strength of a pair of birdies on 6 and 7.
The back nine was competitive as can be, with Olsen forcing a tie on the 12th hole after a birdie. He took the lead on No. 15 when Koch bogeyed on the 15th, and tied they would remain until the 18th when Koch finished off his final birdie of the day.
Meanwhile, Darron Baker led the Senior Division with a pair of back-to-back 73s, good for 8-over par. Don Newbury, Rick Thompson and Daryl Armstrong were all in contention.
Arnie Leistad and Jim Mullenix were both eight over to co-lead the Super Senior Division.
