The Cass County Historical Museum, located on Main Street in Griswold, has opened for the season.
The museum is open from May to December, on Wednesdays through Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
It includes a variety of items ranging from wildlife and Indian artifacts from the earliest Indian inhabitants to the present Victorian beautiful furniture, glassware, and clothing, an unusual large marble collection, a Cass County signature quilt among others, Uniforms and souvenirs from the Civil War through the Afghanistan War, farm tools, antique kitchen articles, a large marble shoeshine stand, and toy collections. One of the most popular rooms is the one containing the Kirchhoff Collection of replica barns intricately created to scale by Wayne Kirchhoff.
New displays this year are the late Dr. BJ England's office equipment, a display honoring Gustav Kuester, State Representative in the 1950's and known as the "Farmer Legislator," and a flag that was flown on the spaceship "Columbia"and awarded to Leonidas Papathakos who was raised in Atlantic, and mementos from the recently closed long-serving Robinson Hardware store in Atlantic.
