Shift ATL Block Party Fund-raiser Set For Oct. 26

ATLANTIC – A group that is working to build on Atlantic’s foundation of economic development, and continue to help it grow, is planning a block party fund-raiser on Oct. 26.

The group is Shift ATL, a 501 © 3 non-profit organization, and one of their first projects was purchasing the former Downtower Building, and rehabilitating it to be used for business and living space and even a green space on the side of the building. Members already have a potential tenant for the business portion, who hopes to have a “wine bar-coffee shop” type establishment.

The fund-raiser will be held on Fourth Street in front of the building, with the street blocked off from the building to Walnut Street.

Shift ATL will be kicking the festivities off at 5:30 p.m. with music, a beer garden, A-Town Smoke Shack food truck (serving BBQ), Hungry Spartan food truck (serving wood fired pizzas), and on-site interactive screen printing for t-shirts. The lower level of the building will be open for guests to walk through and see the demolition progress and the projected floor plans of the completed project. The First Name Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. The party is scheduled until 11 p.m.

Cost to enter is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 12-17 and 12 and under are free. Payment for entry and drink tickets can be made by cash, check, card or Venmo at the gate upon arrival.

“We decided to throw a block party for a variety of reasons,” said board member, Alexsis Fleener. “First, we wanted to introduce ourselves and our building rehab project to the community. It’s a fun and interactive way to come togeter as a community. All money raised through the entry fee, beer sales and half of the screen printing goes directly towards the building rennovation costs. We are passionate about being accessible to interested community members, and we want to show that everyone can contribute to community development in Atlantic!”

Pre-sale tickets are available prior to the event, which include a free drink ticket. A limited number are available and attendees are encouraged to act quickly. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, CADCO, Cambin Mechanical, Deter Motor Company, Luxe Salon or by contacting SHIFT ATL through Facebook at or by email at

Funds raised at this event will be put towards the matching funds required for the Community Catalyst Grant they will be applying for early next year. That grant, and the matching funds, will cover the cost of the majority of the renovations that will be done inside the group’s first economic development project, the previous Downtowner building that they bought earlier this year.
