ATLANTIC – The Atlantic Park Board will consider a recommendation on whether to open up Sunnyside Pool for the season after members see what Governor Kim Reynolds is recommending on the idea on May 27.

Members said the board could have a special meeting after May 27 after they see what Reynolds says, and if she recommends opening pools – they could discuss ways to do that – otherwise, they would recommend keeping it closed, and get started on maintenance for it.

Many agreed it wasn’t very practical to open the pool during the coronavirus outbreak as more staff would be needed to clean the pool area and to make sure people would follow the social distancing standards. They would also have to discuss how many people they could have at the pool when it’s open, and if they would have “rotate” who is there every couple of hours. There were also concerns about how to make sure people would follow the rules- like social distancing standards.

In other news, the board agreed that the dog park could be reopened, and asked Atlantic Park and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen to place signs at the entrance reminding people of the social distancing standard for that area.
