HIGHLAND, Kan. – Iowa Western did earlier in the day Saturday what Iowa and Iowa State couldn’t quite do: Rally to win a football game.
ZaQuandre White had three fourth-quarter touchdown runs that allowed the Reivers to rally from a 15-7 deficit to overtake Highland 27-22 in its regular-season finale on the road.
The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpariel reported that White’s touchdown runs – a pair of 4-yarders and a 2-yard shot – were the difference makers. He ended the day with 36 carries for 145 yards, and finished with 31 receiving yards to make for a great day.
Braydon Aker made his first start at quarterback, with 244 passing yards including a 16-yard touchdown to Marcell Barbeee.
That was more than enough to overcome a sloppy effort – 13 penalties for 165 yards – and giving up 400 yards of total offense by the Scotties.
IWCC finished the regular season with an 8-3 record, with the last seven wins in a row. The Reivers will now await its bowl game assignment before going to work preparing for their opponent in that game.
