Alyssa Derby has quickly established herself as a four-sport threat. Everywhere she plays, everywhere she runs, she’s bound to bring success to the Atlantic Trojans.

Her latest exploits have come in softball.

So far, she leads the team in home runs, driving in four round-trippers on the season off her bat.

She picked up three last week, including two against Hawkeye Ten Conference rival Shenandoah that drove in a combined four runs, and then another against Nodaway Valley that brought in three runs.

Her first RBI of the year was back on May 31 against Denison-Schleswig, where she clocked out a three-run round-tripper.

Her hard hitting efforts have been a major reason why the Trojans are 15-1, just one of 21 remaining teams statewide that have one loss or less on the year, and why the team sits atop the Hawkeye Ten Conference as the race nears the halfway point of the 2019 season.

Derby’s efforts also have earned her this week’s Athlete of the Week honors by the News-Telegraph.
