AUDUBON — In continuing consultation with Elderbridge Area Agency on Aging and following state guidelines, the meal sites at the Good Neighbor Center in Audubon and the Congregate Meal Site at the Lions Club Building in Exira will continue to be closed for in-person dining and other activities until at least Sept. 1.
“We understand how anxious everyone is to be able to come back to eat, visit with their friends and engage in the other activities at the meal sites. But continuing concerns about the high risk populations and the continuing cases of COVID-19 require that we continue to provide our services through the delivery of the meals Monday through Friday,” officials said.
The fall fundraiser breakfast, held during T-Bone Days, has been cancelled this year.
“This is one of our two major fundraisers each year. If you would like to support the on-going programs of the Good Neighbor Center for our senior citizens you may send your donations to: Good Neighbor Center, 410 N Park Pl, Audubon IA 50025,” officials said.
A new commercial refrigerator was purchased in March, and the group continues to update other items as necessary. The tremendous rise in meat prices has increased the food purchase costs substantially, and funding for the program saw an increase of about 1 percent for the fiscal year which began on July 1, so any additional support is greatly appreciated.
“We have been delivering approximately 50 meals a day on average since mid-March when the centers closed to in-person dining. With all of the extra meal deliveries, we can always use help in delivering meals on weekdays. Deliveries routes begin about 10:45 a.m. If you could help out with the deliveries, please call our center director Diane at 712-563-3657,” officials said.
