AUDUBON — While COVID-19 has put a damper on activities around the country, with many large and small events cancelled, the Audubon Recreation Foundation is planning a fun fund-raiser on Saturday night that will offer a meal, music and trivia, along with a way to support recreation at the Audubon Recreation Center.
A Steak Sandwich Meal will be offered Saturday, Aug. 1 with live music and trivia to wrap up the night.
The meal includes a New York Strip sandwich, baked potato and salad. Ice cream from the Audubon Recreation Center’s new ice cream machine will also be available.
The meal will be served from 5-8 p.m. Trivia is set to begin after dinner, from 8-11 p.m. Get ticket information by calling the ARC, 712-588-1128.
A local Audubon band, Out of Options, will be playing during the evening activities.
This summer the Audubon Recreation Center got a few new updates, including an extension of the parking lot. With the help of an Audubon Community Foundation Group grant, additional concrete was added to extend the parking lot, and Foundation officials thanked Anthofer Dozing for doing a ton of dirt work and PCS and Audubon-Exira Ready Mix for concrete work. Denny’s Parking Lot striping came in and striped the parking stalls after concrete work was complete.
Officials hope to use money raised to do things like adding black lights for specialty bowling and will be on hand to talk about other projects and offerings.
The facility, located at 703 Southside Avenue in Audubon, offers a variety of activities including basketball, a batting cage, racquetball and a walking track. There is a bowling alley, offering open bowling and leagues, and a restaurant open Tuesday-Thursday and Friday-Saturday for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and supper 5-9 p.m. Sundays lunch is served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and supper from 5-8 p.m. A wide variety of appetizers, burgers and sandwiches, salads, and Zipp’s pizza is available.
The facilities are open to members and non-members with a day pass. You don’t have to be a member to bowl or to go to the restaurant.
