EXIRA — A Fourth of July Kickoff hosted by the Exira Community Club, planned for Saturday, May 9, has been postponed — the second time it was put off — because of coronavirus concerns.
The event, which would have announced things like the theme and grand marshal for the 155th annual Fourth of July Celebrations, was put off because officials felt social distancing concerns could not be met at the event the way it was planned. Instead, they hope to put together something else.
“We’re trying to see if we can come up with something a little different on a much smaller scale, where social distancing is easy to do and we don’t want to put anyone at risk,” said Abby Rasmussen, of the Exira Community Club.
Plans haven’t been finalized yet, but those interested can watch the Exira Community Club Facebook page for further announcements.
An announcement on what the actual Fourth of July Celebration will look like this year is expected around June 1-2 this year, she said.
Club officials put off the kick off event in March, moving it back to May 9, but then decided recently to postpone it again.
