PIctured are members of the Griswold Student Council with food donations for the food pantry.

The Griswold community can be proud of its students and staff at GCS for their exceptional donations to the annual fall food drive. Griswold Student Council had the best school wide food drive to date. Last year with the new elementary building added onto the high school, the student council included the elementary students and staff in our food drive. Last year’s total was 1,818 items of food and/or money. This year our total is 2,386 cans of food/candy/nuts; and $424- again including all staff and all students for a grand total of 2,810 units. All food and money is donated to the Lord’s cupboard food pantry at the Methodist Church in Griswold.

The Griswold MS students showed great pride in collecting food donations for the Lord’s Cupboard. Each Tiger Time(homeroom) attempted to “wall up” their doorway by stacking cans in the way. If they couldn’t get in the door, they earned a kickball tourney during Tiger Time. They also held a pie eating contest which required a two item donation to attend.

The elementary students collected 648 cans of food, middle school students collected 658 cans of food and $193.50. The High school students collected 515 cans and $100. The Griswold Staff collected 271 cans and $80.50. We also received a check for $50 from Sandbothe Firestone. The Casey’s store in Griswold was changing out some food items and donated 295 bags of candy and nuts. The student council will also like to thank the following businesses for their contributions to the raffle prizes: Tiger Mart, Wyman’s Auto, Griswold American newspaper, Casey’s, Houghton State Bank, Griswold Telephone Company, Dusty’s Restaurant; and also the teaching staff of Griswold schools.
