ANITA – Iowa Connections Academy, a tuition-free online public school of the CAM Community School District, is now accepting new students for the 2020-2021 school year. Available to students in grades K-12 across Iowa, the school accommodates the needs of modern learners through unique curriculum opportunities, close-knit collaboration with fellow students and staff, supportive teachers and the flexibility to learn from anywhere with an internet connection.

Currently providing more than 555 students with a high-quality, personalized online education, the school combines Iowa-certified teachers with structured LiveLesson sessions, and a curriculum that meets rigorous state education standards. Through advanced technology tools, teachers work closely with students to nurture their strengths and provide additional support for areas of difficulty. Students can choose from innovative courses like foreign languages, digital technology and web design, as well as a variety of honors and Advanced Placement (AP)® courses for high school students interested in college-level curriculum.

Now in its eighth year of instruction, 93 percent of Iowa Connections Academy parents would recommend the school to other families and 96 percent agree that the curriculum is high quality, according to the school’s 2019 Parent Satisfaction Survey results.

“Connections Academy has opened up a whole new way of learning for my daughter,” said Iowa Connections Academy parent Trish Ehrenfried. “She is both challenged and engaged, while learning and excelling in a safe, fun, and stress-free environment.

A diverse student body thrives in this environment, which includes competitive athletes with strict training schedules, previously homeschooled students looking for teacher support, and students seeking expanded course offerings, among others.

Recent research of the Connections Academy online schools provides evidence that Connections Academy students can attain the same level of achievement as traditional brick-and-mortar schools serving similar students, and that students may be better positioned in Connections Academy schools than other virtual schools. Additionally, more than half of the 2019 graduating class had plans to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities.

“We pride ourselves in providing an alternative, or non-traditional, educational option that’s best suited to students’ individual learning needs,” said Dr. James Brauer, principal at Iowa Connections Academy. “We look forward to the opportunity to help more Iowa students reach their full academic potential. Knowing that we can be part of one more school choice option for Iowa families is something we do not take lightly. We must meet our students’ needs—academic, social, and/or emotional—all day, every day. Each Iowa Connections Academy staff member is committed to doing just that.”

The open enrollment period is now through March 1 (Sept. 1 for kindergarten), though students may enroll throughout the year with good cause.
