Atlantic Meals On Wheels Recognizes Outgoing, Incoming Board Members

The Atlantic Meals on Wheels Board met in December to recognize the members leaving the board and to welcome new board members. Individuals leaving the board are Pat Saltmarsh, Jeanne Weddum, and Brad Rasmussen (not pictured). Those joining the board for a three year term are Judy Just, Chuck McLaren, and Gary Warwick. The board oversees the program that provides a daily meal to approximately 60 individuals in Atlantic. Sue Moser is the director of the program. This service has continued throughout the pandemic with drivers taking recommended precautions for the safety of those receiving and delivering the meals. There is always a need for regular and substitute drivers. If you are interested in helping with this important service or would like information about how to receive meals, contact Sue Moser at 250-0036.

Weather Alert
...Major Winter Storm Today and Tonight.. .A major winter storm will impact much of central and southern Iowa today and tonight, with some snow possibly lingering through midday Tuesday. Snow has already entered southwest Iowa this morning and will expand north into central Iowa by midday. Very heavy snowfall rates near 2 inches per hour are likely this afternoon and evening, leading to heavy accumulations over a short period of time. Increasing northeast winds gusting over 30 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow. Some uncertainty of snowfall amounts remains on the north edge of the snow band, where much less snow totals are possible over a short distance. ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST TUESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 8 to 13 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Portions of central and southern Iowa. * WHEN...Until 6 AM CST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult over the entire warning to impossible. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility and cause moderate drifting. Near blizzard, whiteout conditions are possible. Hazardous conditions will significantly impact the Monday evening commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This may be a historic event with snow amounts of this magnitude only occurring once every 15 to 20 years. For example, in Des Moines there have only been nine 12 inch daily snowfalls since 1884. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. &&
