ADAMS COUNTY — Karmen Grabill, 26, of Hamlin, was killed and two others injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday morning in Adams County.
Grabill was driving a 2010 Freightliner Semi northbound on Ginkgo Avenue and Wannita Olson, 54, of Corning was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Highway 34 at about 10:47 a.m.
Grabill failed to stop or yield at the stop sign at the Highway 34 and Ginkgo intersection, and was struck on Highway 34 by Olson’s vehicle in the intersection. The semi jackknifed and came to rest in the west ditch of Gingko Avenue, while Olson’s Traverse came to rest north of the intersection on Ginkgo Avenue.
According to a report by the Iowa Highway Patrol, Grabill was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene. Olson and a 5-year-old passenger, also of Corning, were wearing their seat belts and were injured.
Olson was transported to CHI Hospital in Corning by Adams County Rescue, while the 5-year-old was was transported to Blanks Children’s Hospital in Des Moines by LifeNet.
The Iowa State Patrol, Corning Fire Department, Adams County Rescue and LifeNet assisted with the incident.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
