ANITA — Alison E. Dorsey, 36, of Anita, has been charged in the death of an 11-week-old infant, identified only as L.H. according to Cass County Attorney Vanessa Strazdas.
The infant reportedly died on Oct. 8 from internal bleeding causing brain death, while in the “sole care and custody of Dorsey at her daycare on Oct. 7,” according to Strazdas.
Medical evidence showed the injuries causing the infant’s death were inflicted and non-accidental; commonly called shaken baby syndrome. The onset of brain hemorrhage would have been immediate, according to information from Strazdas.
Dorsey was charged on Thursday, Feb. 13 on two charges. She’s charged with murder in the first degree, a class A felony that carries a life in prison term, and child endangerment resulting in the death of a child, a special class B felony. That charge carries a maximum term of 50 years in prison if she was convicted.
She is currently being held in the Cass County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond. An initial appearance was set to take place by today (Friday, Feb. 14).
