“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
One of our favorite things to do in the summer as a family is to go swimming. We typically get to local pools a couple times each, we love making the trip to King’s Pointe in Storm Lake, and we are blessed to have family with a pool. There is something about the combination of the water and the sun. It just seems to be the perfect mix. They combine to bring a distinct refreshment. It refreshes both the outside and inside of the body as you feel weightless in the water. It almost feels surreal.
Similarly, this is how we should feel when we repent of our sins and turn back to God. We should feel a distinct refreshment in our mind, heart and soul. True repentance brings a weightlessness as we dive into the depths of God’s grace. The Son and His grace are the perfect combination for refreshment as the things we repent of are no more. In ancient times, ink was acidic and was impossible to wipe away. However, when God forgives, God forgets. Our sins which can feel permanent are miraculously wiped out by God’s grace and mercy. That’s a refreshment that runs deeper than any we can experience in this world.
Sometimes I think God might shake His head at us as we make difficult the things His Son died to make simple. If there is something weighing you down or something has you bound, confess and repent. God is faithful to forgive. Turn back to the Lord and you will be refreshed like never before.
