“It (the grace of God) teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age...”
It is a difficult thing to live a self-controlled, upright and godly life at any point in time but especially in our present age. We are surrounded by ungodliness in word, deed and even beliefs, We are enticed constantly with worldly passions and we live in a culture that’s more accepting than before of ungodliness and worldliness. Generations have shifted parents from telling their children, “Be good,” to “Have fun.” Yet as Christians, we’re called to live differently.
We have a wonderful Teacher in Jesus Christ, who is the grace of God incarnate. The closer we grow in relationship to Jesus Christ the more clearly we’ll distinguish the worldly from the spiritual and ungodliness from godliness. Our eyes, ears and hearts will be more in tune to living a self-controlled life. Not so that we can earn or deserve anything but we strive to live in such a way as a response to the salvation offered to us through the grace of God, Jesus Christ. Growing in relationship with Jesus Christ causes transformation in our lives. God changes us for our good and His glory.
Would you take time each day to intentionally grow closer to Jesus Christ? Pray that your eyes, ears and hearts would be open and attentive to the things that bring Him glory. Confess for the times and ways in which you’ve stumbled and know that the grace of God is sufficient. And give thanks for the salvation that’s offered to us so freely. Receive the gift and be forever changed.
