GRISWOLD – Another week brings another good opponent for Griswold.

As the Tigers look to break into the win column for the first time in two years, Stanton-Essex is coming off a nice 28-22 road victory last Friday night over Bedford.

The Vikings rallied from a 16-0 first quarter deficit to tie the game up by the end of the third quarter, then scored the late touchdown to secure the come-from-behind win.

Stanton-Essex – in the second year of a cooperative sharing agreement – was led by quarterback Carter Johnson, who had 302 total yards, including 114 on the ground, and four total touchdowns. Colby Royal added 110 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Griswold fell behind 46-0 late in the second quarter before sophomore Cale Swain scored both the Tigers’ touchdowns, catches of 14 and 15 yards, in the eventual 62-14 loss to Lenox.

Swain has been a bright spot for the Tigers this season with 203 total yards, including five receptions for 77 yards. Sam Olsen has 155 yards on the ground and a touchdown; he, Swain and his 126 yards rushing and quarterback Lane Mueller’s 121 yards passing are the only Tigers with triple-digit statistics so far this season.

At the time, he remarked about containing Stanton-Essex’s pass game. Johnson has 376 yards on 27-of-52 passing with four touchdowns, and Logan Roberts will be the guy to watch on the ground with 324 yards and four touchdowns.

Game time is 7 p.m.
