Atlantic nearly had the catch on this play, with Colin Mullenix just missing the reception for a touchdown.

The final Associated Press poll for the seven-game regular season was once again good to area teams.

Atlantic, Audubon and CAM each were ranked, while Riverside ended just a few votes short of landing in the AP’s top 10 in the final poll, released Monday.

In Class 2A, Atlantic landed at No. 9, down a spot from last week. The Trojans are coming off a dominating 42-0 win over Red Oak and are the District 9 champions. The win over the Tigers was their fourth-straight shutout of the season.

In eight-man, Audubon came in as the third-ranked team. The Wheelers, who were No. 2 a week ago, have been idle the past two weeks due to health issues but are slated to be back on the gridiron this week when they host Bedford.

CAM finished at No. 4, the same place as last week. The Cougars are coming off a 34-20 win over Stanton-Essex and finished the season at 6-0.

Riverside completed a 6-1 season and was the leading vote-getter among teams not in the Class A top 10. As an interesting side note: The AP lists Riverside as Oakland Riverside; one voter apparently confused the Bulldogs with Highland, a team the AP lists as Riverside Highland. (Riverside is in Washington County, and roughly 15 miles south of Iowa City.) Highland, incidentally, finished 1-6 on the season, but the one vote given to them would not have been enough to push the Oakland-based team into the top 10.
