Despite the fact it stills feels like summer, staff at Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton are getting in gear for a new school year.

According to a letter from Exira-EHK Superintendent Trevor Miller, posted on the district’s Facebook Page, the first day of school will be Aug. 23, and an open house will be held on Aug. 21. Open house hours in Elk Horn will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and open house hours in Exira will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

School start times will now be 8:10 a.m. at both buildings, and bus shuttles will be available to take students from Exira to Elk Horn or from Elk Horn to Exira.

“Bus shuttles will leave both locations at 7:35 a.m.,” Miller said in his letter. “If you have elementary students living in Elk Horn and need to go to Exira, please have them at the Elk Horn building by 7:30 a.m. If you have a Middle School or High School Students living in Exira that needs to ride the bus to Elk Horn, have them at the Exira building by 7:30 a.m.”

The first day of preschool will be Sept. 3. This year, it will be held from 8:10 to 11:10 a.m. on Mondays through Fridays at Elk Horn, and from 8:10 to 11:10 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Friday in Exira. Lunch will not be served to preschool students.

Administrative staff will be at each building starting today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be available to answer any questions about registration. Individuals can stop in or call the appropriate school with questions. New teachers will start on Aug. 16, and returning teachers will start on Aug. 19.

Miller also said the first football game of the year will be on Aug. 30 at Fremont-Mills at 7 p.m., and he will give updates on school activities on his twitter account. Follow him at @TrevorMiller1.

“Thank you again for your support as I start year 4 at Exira-EHK,” Miller said in his letter. “Great things are happening in our district, and I am looking forward to the 2019-20 school year.”
