Earlier this year I accepted the 5th through 12th grade principal position at Audubon Middle School and High School. My family and I are very excited to be coming to Audubon. My wife Nikki and I, along with Jack (12), Lucy (9), and Ella (6) will be making the move at the end of June.
For the last 15 years I have taught and coached at North Linn High School. I was a social studies teacher, teaching Economics, Government, World History, American History, Psychology, Sociology, and Geography. I coached Wrestling, Football, and Track along with youth Baseball and Soccer. I also served as a State Representative for four years during this time. My wife Nikki is a nurse and has accepted a position at the Audubon Hospital.
It was a big decision to pack up and make a move 3 hours away. Before I decided to even apply I did some research. Audubon has achieved a lot as a town in the last 10 years. It is so impressive to see the store fronts full, the beautiful square, the truck stop, hotel, restaurants, and the outstanding facilities that Audubon has to offer. The work that was put into raising money and getting the Recreation Center completed was an awesome accomplishment, and the town should be very proud of the hard work that brought that to fruition.
But what sold me the most on making the move is the quality school district that we have here in Audubon. For a school our size, one will not find better facilities. Our grounds and fields are top notch and the work that was done on the elementary was phenomenal and I look forward to being a part of whatever comes next. The administration and staff are a cut above and have and continue to achieve great milestones. The students are competing and performing at the highest levels academically and athletically, and I have been following their progressions. The FFA, Art Program, and the Fine Arts continue to achieve at the highest levels. There are a lot of things to be proud of at Audubon.
I really wanted to take this opportunity to share some good news with you about the latest achievement in the Audubon Community School District. Just recently the State Board of Education released their Iowa School Performance Profiles for all the schools in the state. Schools were measured in a number of categories, including Reading and Math Proficiency, Average School Achievement in Reading and Math, Growth in both Reading and Math, Graduation Rates, and Conditions for Learning. They were then compared to other schools and the state average. In every measured performance area, Audubon scored higher than the state average. Every category of measure!
There are a lot of good things going on in the Audubon Community School District. I look forward to becoming a part of this outstanding team. I look forward to getting out into the community and getting to know all of you and partnering up with businesses and individuals to keep The Wheelers Rollin!
