AUDUBON — Audubon residents will be getting new water meters starting soon, a step towards monthly water billing.
Building Crafts, Inc., of Red Oak, will be installing the new “radio read” water meters that can be read at a distance. Audubon City Clerk Joe Foran said the company has nine months to install all the meters — approximately 1,000 — around Audubon and will be starting with businesses.
The company will initially be working normal business hours, like 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will probably catch mostly individuals who are home during daytime hours, others may have to make an appointment for the replacement.
Foran said crews will have identification showing they are with Building Crafts, Inc. They will need access to the water meter, and will have to shut off water for 20-30 minutes during the installation.
Audubon Police Chief Matt Starmer provided pictures of vehicle signs and IDs that the company will be using, and said the company’s phone number is on the signs and ID.
“Please feel free to call the company to confirm the person is their employee if you feel necessary,” he said.
City officials appreciated, in advance, the cooperation of residents for this project.
