On Oct. 5, the Exira Lions presented checks to Duane Avey and Bill Ridgely. Duane Avey represents the Missing in America Project. This project helps find military servicemen and women who have been placed on shelves in funeral homes that were forgotten. MIAP looks through those shelves and can give those servicemen the military funeral they so greatly deserve and give family closure with their loved one. Bill Ridgely and his wife Connie, of Tori’s Angels, also work with over 60 children who are very ill, not just with cancer but with heart defects and so many other devastating illnesses. Tori’s Angels help with the deductibles for insurance and traveling expenses for the children, their parents, to ease the burden just a little bit. Bill has said the hardest part of all this is going to the Angels funerals.
