ELK HORN — The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton Community School Board approved a one year sharing agreement for Superintendent Trevor Miller with the IKM-Manning school district, changing the amount of time Miller will spend in Exira-EHK.
The new agreement shares Miller 80/20 with IKM-Manning, the larger school, getting more of Miller’s time. He will spend four days at IKM-Manning and one day per week at Exira-EHK.
Miller said the one year agreement gave both districts time to see if the change was working out, or if the districts wanted to do something else. He expected the districts to make a decision about possible different options around Christmas.
In addition, the board approved a number of personnel transfers, hires and resignations during their Monday meeting.
Bev Ohlinger, a special education teacher, will be retiring.
Kathy Blazek was hired as a half time, long term substitute in the elementary.
Dave Burkett’s contract as a para educator in the Elk Horn building was renewed.
A number of coaching contracts were also approved. They include Tom Petersen as high school girls golf, Tony Petersen as high school boys golf, Payton Wilkenfeld as high school girls track and Ross Blake as junior high track assistant.
The district is still looking to fill a K-8 guidance/P.E. position, a high school business position and a middle school special education position.
The board also approved the 2020-21 school calendar. The first day of school will be Monday, Aug. 24. Winter break will begin on Dec. 22 and students will return to school Jan. 5. There will be three days off for Thanksgiving and the final day of school is tentatively set at Friday, May 21.
