Accidents

On Jan. 26, at approximately 10:08 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vheicle accident on Boston Road. A 2009 Toyota Camry owned and driven by Peiyang Li, 23, of Ames, was westbound on Boston Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the icy road surfface, entering the south ditch and striking a power pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $7,000.

On Feb. 2, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on Tucson Road. A 1998 Chevy K1500 owned and driven by Kaitlin Janet Polzin, 18, of Elliott, was eastbound on Tucson when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the south ditch, striking a fence and then a tree. The driver was transported by Cumberland Rescue to Cass County Memorial Hospital. Damabe to the vehicle is estimated at $3,500. The incident remains under investigation.

Arrests

On Jan. 31, as a result of a report of a traffic hazard on I-80 westbound, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Andre Alexander Shupe, 31, of Council Bluffs, on charges of providing false id information (simple misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor); and Heather Lynn

Charles, 31, of Omaha, on a charge of possession drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). Both parties were taken to the Cass County Jail. Shupe was also held on a detainer for Nebraska authorities for Probation Revocation. Shupe remains held awaiting transfer to Nebraska authorities; Charles pled guilty the following day and was released.

On Feb. 3, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Michael Howard, 30, of Atlantic, on charges of theft second degree (a Class D Felony) and criminal mischief fifth degree (simple misdemeanor). Howard was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held on $5,000 bond.
