AUDUBON — The Audubon City Council will award a contract on work to install new water meters at their July 8 meeting.

There were five bids received on the work and City Clerk Joe Foran said the number of bids, and the fact that all came in under estimate, was a plus.

The bids came from Iowa, Missouri and Texas and ranged from $726,000 down to $476,000. The estimate was $800,000. The low bid came from a Red Oak company.

The project includes replacing water meters in town with some that can be read remotely by radio. The change will make reading meters easier and will enable the city to go to monthly meter reading. The council is expected to award a contract at the July 8 meeting.

In other news the council approved a 2 percent raise for department heads.
