Cass County Sheriff
On July 17, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin Allen Knutsen, 33, of Atlantic, on a charge of interference with official acts (simple). Knutsen was taken to the Cass County Jail where he pled guilty and was released the following day.
On July 19 deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jordyn Dell Lavola Swanson, 34, of Exira, on charges of public intoxication (simple) and disorderly conduct (simple). Swanson was taken to the Cass County Jail and released later that day on her own recognizance.
On July 19, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason Richard Tasto, 43, of Atlantic, on a charge of violation of a no contact order (simple). Tasto was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held on $5,000 bond.
On July 22, at 11:05 p.m., deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of 740th Street and Richland Road. A 2000 Ford F150 owned and driven by Richard Edwin Swain, 43, of Massena, was northbound on 740th Street when the driver ran a stop sign and lost control, flipping into the east ditch and landing on the passenger side. The driver was taken to the Cass County Memorial Hospital via Massena Fire and Rescue. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $2,500. The incident remains under investigation.
Shelby County Sheriff
A single vehicle accident on Monday night on 1600th Street, resulted in injuries to the driver. Aaron James Nelson, 45, of Harlan, suffered serious injuries and was flown to Bergan-Mercy Hospital in Omaha by helicopter. Nelson was driving a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup westbound on 1600th Street a quarter mile west of Highway 59, when the pickup went out of control, entered the north ditch and rolled at least once. Nelson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He was cited for failure to maintain control. The pickup was totaled, a loss estimated at $20,000.
Brooke Rene Scheffler, 30, of Harlan, was cited for driving while suspended following a traffic stop.
Alvaro Ramirez, of Denison, driving a 1999 Toyota Camry, was traveling south on Highway 59 as Joanne Kenkel of Defiance, driving a 2012 Ford F150, was traveling west on Lincoln Avenue. Kenkel proceeded from the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 59 and Lincoln Avenue, striking Ramirez’ side door. The Toyota Camry came to rest in the west side ditch off Highway 50.
