Christmas kicked off in the Danish villages of Elk Horn and Kimballton on Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24. Shoppers had a wide variety of locations to shop for holiday gifts - including the Hometown Christmas in the Kimballton Town Hall, Main Street Boutique in Elk Horn’s Town Hall and a vendor fair in the former Fajen Lumber building.
The Danish Windmill’s sixth annual 5K Naughty or Nisse Polar Run resulted in some colorfully dressed runners. The run starts at the Little Mermaid in Kimballton and goes to the Danish Windmill in Elk Horn. According to the Danish Windmill’s Facebook page, the fastest runner was Nick Olsen. After the run Santa and the runners gathered for a photo in front of the Windmill.
There was also a pancake supper at the Elk Horn Fire Station; free admission to the Museum of Danish America and Bedstemor’s House, and an annual Julefest concert with dancing around the Christmas Tree at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church.
