Audubon, Exira-EHK to share 3 girls' sports

And the Wheeler and Spartan girls’ basketball, track and golf programs will be in place for at least the next two years, according to sharing agreements entered into this past week.

The two school boards approved an athletics sharing agreement for two years, starting with the 2023-2024 school year, for high school girls’ basketball, track and golf. This is in addition to boys and girls wrestling that Audubon, Exira-EHK and IKM-Manning already share.

Exira-EHK will be the host school for girls basketball and golf. Audubon will host track, and remain the host school for all wrestling.

Boys programs are not affected by the agreement and will maintain their own programs.

According to a statement issued by Audubon superintendent Eric Trager and Exira-EHK superintendent Trevor Miller, the activities directors at the two schools, Audubon’s Sean Birks and Exira-EHK’s Tom Petersen, began discussing sharing. When looking at numbers and participation in these particular activities, they believed it was in both districts best interest to be proactive and present the proposal to the school boards.

“This is a great opportunity for our districts to work together, be proactive and provide the best opportunities for our students. That is what we are here for in education,” said Miller.

Noted Trager: “We understand this will be a change for folks to get used to but it is clear this sharing agreement will provide the highest quality opportunities for our kids. I appreciate both school boards making the commitment to do just that.”
